Title:  Mechanical Engineer with Medtronic project Experience

Location:   Fridley , MN “Locals Only”

Duration :  5 Months

Rate:  $55/Hr


Job Duties :

-Lead the R&D activities of product development projects

-Create detailed product design specifications that meet customer requirements

-Communicate design concepts and technical plans effectively

-Construct & evaluate prototypes for meeting design specifications

-Lead troubleshooting activities of design issues

-Perform tolerance analysis of designs and stack-up analysis

-Conduct technical design reviews and presentations

-Create design verification and validation plans, design fixtures for testing and direct clinically relevant testing to meet requirements

-Write detailed protocols and reports

-Review drawings, create ECO's,

-Demonstrated aptitude in mechanical engineering with hands-on experience in product design and development,

-Candidate must be willing to work in the presence of blood, tissue, organs, etc.

The MINIMUM requirements of this position include:

.B.S. in engineering or appropriate technical discipline (Mech Eng, Materials Science, Chemical Eng. or equivalent);

.Minimum of nine years of product development of catheters, extruded tubing, and/or leads;

.Minimum of five years in design of implantable medical products;

.Knowledge of product development, manufacturing, clinical, and regulatory requirements;

.Strong influence/communication skills;

.Experience in a manufacturing environment; cross-functional technical experience; industry knowledge.

.Proficient with project planning tools (e.g. Gantt, Network Diagrams, WBS, MS Project, Critical Path and Critical Chain Methods);

.Proficient with engineering statistical tools/methods such as DOE, Monte Carlo, Minitab, ANOVA; Experience using and FMEA and FTA methods;

.Proficient with Pro/Engineer software or equivalent CAD software;

.Proficient with GD&T tolerance and dimensioning methods and tolerance analysis;

.Knowledge of lab practices, procedures, and tools/equipment.

.Experience interfacing with physician customers and therapy consultants/sales;

.Knowledge of spinal and brain anatomy/physiology.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

.Master's Degree in engineering or appropriate technical discipline (Mech. Eng, Materials Science, or equivalent

.Thirteen plus years experience in product development.

.Seven years experience in design of implantable medical products.

.Proficient with DFSS principles (VOC, Transfer Functions, etc as they relate to designing robust products.

.DFLS or DFSS Green Belt certification.


Position Description:

-The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, Medtronic Neuromodulation Therapy Delivery Development, will be responsible for technical and design leadership of the next generation leads, catheters and related accessories (e.g. anchors, needles, etc.


Position Responsibilities:

-Develop new product designs with responsibility for design initiation through product market release.

-The primary areas of excellence for this position are the generation of measurable and verifiable product specifications, and generation and evaluation of corresponding product designs and BOM's.

-Responsible for the overall design through market release;

-Serve as key technical staff;

-Mentor and guide other engineers and technicians;

-Assist in determining system level objectives and work in cross-functional development teams.

-This position requires frequent contact with customers and other functional areas i.e. business development, clinical, marketing, regulatory, manufacturing and suppliers.

-Work under minimal supervision and provide work direction for others when necessary.

-Develops technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.

-Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.

-Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role.

-Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.

-Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.

-Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

-Work is performed without appreciable direction.
