Plans, designs, develops, codes and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products
This person develops and engineers integrated GIS/GPS combined hardware and software solutions to meet internal as well as client needs. Moreover, this position is the technical lead for systems development and integration; and synthesizes two primary roles, Software Engineer and IT Hardware Systems Integrator. The position also requires business skills to develop cost-effective solutions to meet market windows and target solutions to client and internal needs and capabilities. This position also requires technical support as we as project planning and management skills.
Essential Job Functions
o Subject matter expert to perform researches and tests all data collection and data processing hardware that may potentially be integrated into the integrated solution, including, but not limited to digital cameras, GPS (global positioning system) devices, IMU (inertial measurement unit)/Dead reckoning units, DMI (distance measuring instrument) units, terrestrial LiDAR units, field computers, and desktop computers;
o Develops software interfaces to integrate data collected from all hardware devices into the complete data collection and data processing solution;
o Develops hardware solutions to both minimize cost and maximize portability, while still providing required features and capabilities.
o Develops and prototypes new software solutions for GIS/GPS applications for field data collection, tracking, post processing, and asset inventory.
o Integrates all software data flows to engineer a seamless and closed-loop work flow between different software and hardware components: mobile data collection, post processing, field tools, and central database.
Maintains current versions of software components including testing and bug fixes;
o Develop custom software solutions and/or utilities as needed to meet specific project and client needs
o Do software life-cycle planning and management to ensure that software components can effectively meet client and internal needs
o Develops GUI interfaces to make all software fault tolerance and easy to use.
Other duties
o Develop cost-effective and time-line sensitive solutions to meet overall division goals;
o Work with business development management manager and sales representatives to insure that the complete system can meet project-specific project requirements;
o Work with business development management and sales representatives to propose workable custom solutions as needed for specific project requirements;
o Provide client/sales representative technical support for using and demonstrating all components of the solutions;
o Travel as needed to support sales efforts and to demonstrate the system and its discuss capabilities.
o Provide training to clients and internal staff to use all components of the system.
o Travel as needed to provide system training and use the system to achieve project objectives.
o If needed, manage all aspects of a specific project including on-the-ground data collection, data processing, resource allocation, time-line planning, client expectation management, and project deliverables.
Qualification
Basic Qualifications
o 5+ years experience in the .NET programming environment;
o 7+years experience in GPS programming
o 7+ years experience in GIS programming in both end-user and internal applications and utilities.
o 7+ years hardware integration experience.
Other Qualifications
o Good communication skills to communicate with customers, support personnel and management
o Good skills at managing risks in hardware selections
o Good creative thinking, problem solving, planning, time-management and organization skills to balance and prioritize work
